The rice is the most difficult element of preparing sushi, and you will definitely need to get some short grain sushi rice for this dish.
I've been able to locate sushi rice in most of my local food stores, so it shouldn't be an issue. In addition, I purchased a bag of nori seaweed sheets from my local supermarket's Asian food section.
I cheated slightly by using frozen tempura shrimp to make these rolls. I baked them in the oven and they turned out just great.
These shrimp tempura rolls contain tempura shrimp, avocado, and cucumber. I used a convenient little bamboo rolling mat to roll up my sushi, but if you don't want to buy one, you can use a thin towel, such as a tea towel.
Line the towel or rolling mat with plastic wrap before adding the ingredients. Before I began rolling my sushi, I viewed a video to ensure that I had the proper technique.
The shrimp tempura rolls were a huge success with the entire family. It's an excellent method to introduce sushi to children because there is no raw fish,
and if you have a box of tempura shrimp in the freezer, you can whip up some sushi whenever the mood strikes. Now that I'm confident in my sushi-making abilities,
I'm going to experiment with new variations. Have you ever prepared sushi at home? If so, please leave a comment with your top tips!
