Classic gin rickey is extremely easy. Gin and fresh lime juice with club soda make a pleasant beverage.
Gin and tonics have sugar, but this gin rickey has none. Tangy lime juice and vibrant,
juniper-flavored gin give a gin rickey cocktail its unique flavor with only three components. Mineral-rich club soda adds fizz and refreshment. The tartness and balance are startling.
The rickey began as a bourbon drink in the 1880s. Washington, D.C. lobbyist Joe Rickey ordered Shoomaker's bartender to add lime juice to his bourbon and soda.
When F. Scott Fitzgerald, a gin cocktail lover, included it in The Great Gatsby in the 1920s, it became popular. On a sweltering summer day, Tom Buchanan produced gin rickey cocktails to share, and the rest is history!
